My Experience

Last week, I went with my best friends to Wherrytown skatepark in Penzance and we had a blast! It’s definitely one of the better skateparks in the area and it was opened back in 2013 by Freestyle. One of the things that stood out to us was the picturesque location – it’s right on the coastline and you get a great view of the ocean.

The skatepark itself is made entirely of concrete and has a plaza style street course. It’s split into two levels and on one side there’s a raised platform with a pole jam and a curved ledge. The lower level is connected to the upper level by a flat bank with a rail and lined with two hubbas. From there, you can head into the main part of the skatepark which has some really cool features. There’s a kicker gap, a funbox with an adjoining manny pad, a pump bump and a flat & roll over rail. Plus, there are two hips running along one side and the end of the course finishes with two hipped quarter pipes.

What we loved most about Wherrytown was the heavy focus on street style skating. The surfaces were smooth and there was such a wide variety of obstacles to hit. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into setting everything up in a creative way. That being said, if you’re just starting out, there are plenty of easier obstacles to practice on too.

Overall, we had an awesome time at Wherrytown skatepark and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area. You could easily spend a whole day here just hitting all the different lines and trying out new tricks. It’s definitely one of the better skateparks in the area and I can’t wait to go back again soon!
