A Transition-Based Skatepark with Street Elements

Located in Macclesfield, Cheshire, the South Park skatepark was built by Wheelscape and opened its doors to skaters in late 2009. This all-concrete park is a favorite among skaters of all levels, thanks to its well-designed transitions and unique street elements.

The park features a large bowl with an even larger bowled transitions section, making it perfect for those who love to ride transitions. On the backside of the skatepark, skaters will find a bowl made up of two main parts. The first part is a wider, more open section with a slight kink on the side, which leads to a much deeper and whippier section with an over-vert. Along one side of this section, skaters will find a straight and curved ledge, while the other side leads to the main section.

The main part of the skatepark is large and open, with a bowled edge and an open side, providing skaters with ample space to ride. Leading down from the bowl are a stair set and a flat bank with hubba, lined with two angled brick walls. Additionally, there is a steep pyramid with a block on top and a curved rail that slides smoothly. This section is flat-bottomed, and its edges have an extension and a vert wall on one side, and another pyramid with an up and down hubba on the open side.

My Experience

South Park skatepark: A Skater’s Paradise

Last week, my best friends and I visited the South Park skatepark and we were blown away by the incredible design of the park. Built by Wheelscape in 2009, this park is a must-visit for all skaters.

The transitions-based park with street elements is made entirely out of concrete, and the small brick section adds an interesting twist to the design. The highlight of the park is the large bowl section, which is divided into two parts. The first is a wide, open section with a slight kink, leading to a deeper and faster section with an over-vert. This section also has a curved and straight ledge, which makes it perfect for practicing tricks.

The main section of the park is equally impressive, with a bowled edge and a flat side. It consists of a stair set and a flat bank with hubba, lined with angled brick walls. The steep pyramid with a block at the top and a curved rail that slides smoothly is another standout feature of this section. The flat bottomed section has an extension and a vert wall on one side, and another pyramid with an up and down hubba on the other.
