Overview

Description: Shredding the Concrete Waves at Porthleven Skatepark

Located in Methleigh Bottoms, Porthleven, Cornwall is a remarkable skatepark that was given a major facelift in 2017/2018 by the talented team at Maverick. The new skatepark is built entirely in concrete and boasts an incredibly large, wide-open bowl design that is sure to satisfy even the most seasoned of skaters.

At the heart of the park sits a set of long, curved banks that flow seamlessly into each other, allowing riders to carve and build up speed with ease. There’s also a mini ramp, hips, and roll-ins that add an extra level of excitement to the park’s already impressive layout.

Gone are the days of the old metal ramps on a tarmac base that the previous skatepark was known for. Instead, skaters of all skill levels can now enjoy the smooth and consistent surface that only concrete can provide.

Best of all, there are no known opening or closing times for the park, so riders can shred the concrete waves whenever they please. And the best part? It’s completely free to use, making it a budget-friendly option for those looking to get some serious skating done.

My Experience

Last week, I went with my best friends to Porthleven skatepark and had an absolutely amazing time! The skatepark was rebuilt in 2017/2018 by Maverick, and it’s now made of concrete and has a large wide open bowl design. It was so much fun to skate in it!

The skatepark has a set of long curved banks, a mini ramp, hips, and roll-ins. I particularly enjoyed the long curved banks as they allowed me to practice my skills and tricks. The bowl design was also great as it allowed for a range of different skating styles to be explored.

Compared to the previous skatepark, which was made up of metal ramps on a tarmac base, this new one was a breath of fresh air. The back and forth run with a quarter pipe and flat bank either side of a funbox was a bit limiting, and the metal ramps weren’t as smooth to skate on.

The best thing about Porthleven skatepark is that it’s suitable for skaters of all levels. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone. The park also has a relaxed vibe, and everyone was friendly and welcoming.
