My Experience

Rolling up to Platts Field Skatepark

If you’re a fan of skateboarding, rollerskating, or BMX biking, Platts Field Skatepark is definitely worth checking out. This concrete wonderland is located in the heart of Manchester, and it’s the perfect place to show off your skills and meet like-minded people.

One of the features that really stood out to me was the back-and-forth run, which spans the length of the park. The run is flanked by a quarter pipe and a flat bank on either side of a funbox. This setup allows for endless possibilities when it comes to tricks and maneuvers. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll find plenty of challenges and opportunities to push yourself.

The tarmac base of the park provides a nice smooth surface for cruising, and the concrete ramps offer just the right amount of give to make for a comfortable ride. The overall vibe of Platts Field Skatepark is friendly and welcoming. I felt comfortable striking up conversations with other skaters and bikers, and I even picked up a few tips from some more experienced riders. It’s amazing how a shared passion for a sport can bring people together.

If you’re looking for a fun and challenging place to skate, bike, or rollerblade, Platts Field Skatepark should be at the top of your list. The park is well-maintained, the facilities are clean, and the atmosphere is electric. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who loves to shred.

Top 5 Tricks to Try at Platts Field Skatepark

Are you ready to take on the ramps and obstacles at Platts Field Skatepark? Here are five tricks to try:

  • 360 flip: Start off with a basic trick that will impress your friends. Begin by popping the board with your back foot, then flicking it with your front foot to make it spin horizontally. As the board spins, jump and catch it with your feet before landing back on the board.
  • Grind: Find a rail or ledge and try a grind. As you approach the rail, ollie and land on the rail with your trucks grinding along the surface. Keep your balance and slide until the end of the rail before landing back on your board.
  • Air: Build up speed and ride up the quarter-pipe. As you reach the top, lift off and perform a grab, then land back on the transition. This trick requires confidence and skill, but it’s a crowd-pleaser for sure.
  • Manual: Balance on your back wheels and ride along the flat bank or funbox. Keep your weight centered and use small adjustments to maintain your balance. This is a great trick to practice control and precision.
  • Kickflip: Once you’ve mastered the 360 flip, try a kickflip. This trick involves the same pop and flick motion, but with an added flip of the board. Use your front foot to kick the board forward and flip it over before landing back on it.

Remember to always wear protective gear and skate within your limits. These tricks may take practice and patience, but the thrill of landing them is worth it. So go out there, try something new and have fun at Platts Field Skatepark!
