Overview

Discover Newtown Skatepark: An Epic Mix of Transitions and Street Elements

Newtown Skatepark is an ultimate destination for skateboard enthusiasts. Designed by Acrete and opened in 2012, it is situated on the banks of the River Severn, adding an extra touch of scenic beauty to your skating experience. The skatepark is split into two main runs, providing a perfect mix of transition and street elements.

The first run is transition-based, featuring a half-pipe with a bowled corner on one side that opens onto a long roll-over. Adjacent to it is a bowled corner that is joined to the half-pipe. After this, you’ll find a long quarter pipe with a large extension on one side and a curve around the other.

The second run is the street section. It starts with a taco and flat bank combo that leads onto a raised level with a flat bank leading up to a small stair set and hubbas. Running alongside this is yet another flat bank, and at the end of the raised level, you’ll find a hip that joins the bowled section. Next to the street run is a long run-up to a curved rail over some grass, which is more film-oriented than anything.

Newtown Skatepark is a paradise for skateboarders of all levels. The park has a decent selection of obstacles that have been well-arranged to make good use of the space and flow well. Whether you’re into transitions or street skating, this park has something for everyone to enjoy.

My Experience

Newtown Skatepark: A Mix of Transitions and Street Elements

Last month, I visited Newtown Skatepark with my brother and it was an exhilarating experience. Designed by Acrete and opened in 2012, the skatepark is located on the banks of the River Severn which provided a picturesque backdrop for our skateboarding session.

Split into two main runs, the park offers a great blend of transitions and street elements that cater to all levels of expertise. The first run is transition-based and consists of a half pipe with a bowled corner on one side that leads to a long roll over. Adjacent to this is another bowled corner that connects to the half pipe and leads to a long quarter pipe with a large extension on one side that curves around.

On the other hand, the street section starts with a taco and flat bank combo that leads to a raised level with a flat bank and a small stair set that ends with hubbas. There is another flat bank running alongside and at the end of the raised level, a hip joins onto the bowled section. Furthermore, parallel to the street run is a long run up to a curved rail over some grass, which is more film-oriented than anything.

Overall, Newtown Skatepark is a well-designed park that offers a decent selection of obstacles to flow well. We enjoyed the park’s arrangement that made good use of the space and catered to both transition and street enthusiasts. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this park has something for everyone.
