My Experience

Last week, I headed down to Barnard Castle skatepark to check out what it had to offer. As a casual skater, I was excited to test my skills on the course designed by Freestyle and opened in 2010.

The park itself is fairly basic, but it has everything you need to practise and have a good time. It’s an all-concrete course, divided into two sections: street and transitions. The street section is bookended by two tacos, which is super cool, and there’s a grind rail and a manny pad in between them. I particularly enjoyed grinding on the rail because it was the perfect height for me.

Adjacent to this is the bowl section, which is fairly shallow and features one long straight wall and a curved side opposite with three bowled sections. This section was a little tricky for me as I’m not a huge fan of bowls. However, I still had a lot of fun trying out different tricks and pushing my limits.

One thing that stood out to me about Barnard Castle skatepark was the super smooth surfaces. It was effortless to glide around the park, and I felt like I could spend hours there just practising my ollies and kickflips. Another great thing about this park is that it caters to skaters of all levels. It’s not the most challenging course in the world, but that makes it a good place to come and practise the basics.
